Getting Paid Well Doesn't Stop Depression

Getting Paid Well Doesn’t Stop Depression

A family member in a well paid job and has a position in IT would give an arm and a leg to find happiness in a job that pays well but at the same time gives her the chance to want to go to work and enjoy it.

There was once a saying that I am sure many of us would remember… ‘You can’t buy happiness’ well I believe that is true. This family member is now living a lifestyle that needs money in order to survive and yet the long hours, working different shifts was ruining her. She was depressed and had trouble finding a way to overcome those issues.

Beyondblue is a depression organisation here in Australia and they recently surveyed 7500 professionals in well-paying careers. These careers included law and information technology.

It was reported that lawyers were found to be the most depressed at a rate of 16%, Accountants and insurance underwriters came in second with a rate of 10% and people like the family member in IT, engineering and architecture rated about the average.

This family member doesn’t just let the pressures of work overcome her, she sets herself expectations that cause a whole lot of pressures.

She found it hard to understand that her friend could get up in the morning and go to work happy. She was happy with her job and even though the job paid a third of what the family member was earning, she was happy. In a way, the family member was jealous because her friend had a job that she really enjoyed… but she also understands that she couldn’t live on the wages that her friend was earning. So expectations of herself were very high.
